This O-ring seals the speedshift transmission housing at the gearbox interface. It sits in the groove between the transmission casing and the cover plate, preventing oil leakage under operating pressure and temperature. A degraded or flattened O-ring allows fluid to bypass the seal path, which leads to pressure loss in the clutch-pack circuit and erratic shift behavior. The part is manufactured to the original cross-section and durometer specification, so it seats fully in the groove without requiring additional sealant. On reinstallation, clean the groove surface and verify the ring is not twisted before torquing the cover.
