This gearbox needle bearing supports the rotating shafts inside the transmission housing, reducing friction between meshing gears and maintaining correct shaft alignment. It sits between the input shaft and the countershaft cluster, carrying radial loads during gear engagement. A worn bearing produces audible whine or rattle in neutral and can allow shaft deflection that causes gear tooth misalignment and premature gear wear.
