This gearbox fork engages and disengages the selected gear pair by sliding the synchronizer sleeve or clutch hub along the main shaft. It is mounted inside the transmission housing and is actuated by the shift linkage; its fork-shaped end contacts the groove on the synchronizer sleeve to transfer axial motion. A worn fork tip or bent shaft causes incomplete gear engagement, leading to grinding or gear pop-out under load. The original AGCO-manufactured fork is machined to the same groove width and fork thickness as the original assembly, so the shift detent positions remain accurate and no adjustment shimming is required. On reinstall, verify the fork is not distorted and that the shift rail slides freely before securing the housing cover.
