This cross joint is the component that transmits torque through the grain tank filling auger. It connects the auger drive shaft to the gearbox output, allowing the shaft to rotate while accommodating slight misalignment between the two axes. A worn cross joint produces play in the driveline, which leads to vibration and uneven auger rotation that can cause bridging or spillage inside the grain tank. The original manufacturer machines the cross journal and bearing cups to the same clearance as the original assembly, so no shimming or bushing adapters are required during replacement. When installing, ensure the retaining clips seat fully in their grooves and that the grease fitting is aligned for service access.
