This air filter element is installed inside the engine air-intake housing. It captures airborne particulate before the air reaches the intake manifold and combustion chambers. The filter sits upstream of the mass-airflow sensor and turbocharger inlet, so a clean element maintains the correct air-fuel ratio and protects the compressor wheel from abrasion. A restricted element reduces engine power and increases fuel consumption as the system compensates for lower airflow. This is the original-manufacturer component, with the seal geometry and media density that match the housing's bypass-valve calibration. On replacement, ensure the housing is clean and the seal seats fully before closing the cover.
