It is installed in the return line housing of the system, where trapped contaminants protect downstream components such as the piston pump and spool valves from abrasive wear. A clogged filter element forces the bypass valve open, which allows unfiltered oil to circulate and accelerates internal leakage in actuators. The manufacturer produces this filter to match the original housing seal geometry and bypass-valve cracking pressure, so the replacement restores the intended flow restriction. On reinstallation, replace the housing O-ring and tighten the cap to the specified torque.
