This engine oil filter removes particulate and contaminants from the engine lubrication circuit before oil reaches the bearing surfaces and turbocharger. It mounts on the engine block and receives oil directly from the pump; the filter element traps wear debris and combustion byproducts that would otherwise accelerate bearing wear and reduce oil flow. A restricted filter causes a pressure drop across the element, which can open the bypass valve and allow unfiltered oil to circulate. The filter housing seals against the mounting base with a gasket that should be replaced during each service interval. Torque the housing to the specified value on reinstall to prevent leaks and ensure proper bypass-valve operation.
