This synchronizer ball is a hardened steel sphere that sits inside the transmission’s shift mechanism. It engages with detent grooves on the selector shaft to lock the chosen gear into position, preventing the transmission from jumping out of gear under load. As the ball and its mating spring wear, the detent force decreases, which can cause the gear lever to feel loose or allow the driveline to slip out of engagement during operation. As an original AGCO component, the ball is manufactured to the same diameter tolerance as the factory detent pocket, so it seats correctly without requiring shimming or modification to the shift rail.
