This O-ring seals the interface between the transmission cover and the housing. It prevents oil leakage from the gearbox cavity and keeps contaminants out of the lubricating oil circuit. A degraded or compressed O-ring allows seepage that can lead to low oil level and eventual gear or bearing damage. The part is manufactured by AGCO to the same cross-section and durometer as the original seal, so it seats correctly in the groove without requiring additional sealant.
