This shock absorber controls vertical and lateral movement of the cab relative to the chassis, damping oscillations transmitted from the rear axle and final drive. It is installed between the cab mounting bracket and the frame rail, where it works in parallel with the opposite-side unit to maintain a level cab floor. A worn or leaking damper allows the cab to pitch and rock over field irregularities, which fatigues the operator and accelerates wear on the cab’s rubber isolators and hinge points. The original AGCO unit is valved to match the spring rate of the cab suspension system, so replacement with a non-original unit can shift the damping curve and alter ride behavior. On reinstallation, tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque and inspect the rubber bushings for cracking.
