This gasket seals the front axle housing at the joint between the axle casing and the final-drive cover. It prevents lubricant loss and keeps contaminants from entering the differential and planetary gear sets. A leaking gasket causes oil seepage visible at the joint line and can lead to reduced lubricant level in the axle sump. The gasket is cut to match the original housing face geometry so the clamping force from the cover bolts distributes evenly across the sealing surface. On reinstallation, clean both mating faces of old gasket material and torque the cover bolts in the sequence specified for the axle assembly.
