This engine oil filter removes particulate from the lubricating oil circuit before it reaches the main bearing journals and turbocharger supply. It mounts on the engine block and receives oil from the pump; the filter element traps wear debris and combustion byproducts that would otherwise score bearing surfaces. A restricted filter forces the integrated bypass valve open, sending unfiltered oil to the engine during cold starts or when the element is fully loaded. The filter housing seals against a flat gasket surface; on replacement, verify the gasket is clean and tighten the canister to the specified torque.
