This reel star is the central hub that drives the bat assembly on the header of a harvesting machine. It transmits rotational force from the reel drive to the tine arms, controlling the angle and speed of the bat as it sweeps crop material toward the cutterbar. A worn or damaged star causes uneven bat motion, leading to material bunching or missed crop pickup. The original manufacturer machines the star to match the shaft spline and bearing bore of the header assembly, ensuring the reel maintains consistent timing without excessive backlash.
