12–15

Merlo 12–15 – MD-CODER: Resistance Out of Range / Short Circuit

Issue description

The MD-CODER control system has detected a resistance out of range or a short circuit in one or more potentiometers (specifically Potentiometers 1-4). This indicates a fault in the wiring or the component connected to the circuit, which are typically associated with operator controls such as the joystick axes or the accelerator pedal.

Applies to these machines

  • Telehandlers (MD-CODER V1.25 - V1.40+)
  • ROTO systems (MD-CODER V1.25 - V1.40+)

Check the cause

  1. Ensure a stable power supply to the control system

  2. Visually inspect the wiring and connectors leading to the joystick and pedal potentiometers for any visible signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion

  3. Check the CAN bus lines and connectors, as CAN errors can sometimes cause erroneous potentiometer fault codes

  4. Connect MerloDiag software to read the fault data and identify exactly which potentiometer (1-4) is failing

Repair steps

  1. Identify faulty potentiometer

Use the MerloDiag software to determine which of the four potentiometers (1-4) is logging the error.

  2. Recalibrate potentiometer

Attempt to recalibrate the affected potentiometer using the diagnostics menu in the MerloDiag software.

  3. Replace potentiometer

If recalibration fails to resolve the issue, replace the faulty potentiometer. Note that on some models, joystick replacement can be a direct swap-out without the need for recalibration.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Listed as a spare part for agricultural/material handling equipment. Confirm correct part number with an authorized Merlo dealer using the machine's serial number.
