Merlo 3 – UGS MCSS, UCM, or ECU: Sensor Fault in Range 216-219
Issue description
A fault has been detected in one of the sensors within the range 216–219. This is a general classification pointing to issues with sensors, joysticks, associated wiring, or calibration. The specific meaning (codes 216, 217, 218, or 219) varies significantly depending on the machine's model and control system, potentially affecting turret rotation, boom extension, hydrostatic filters, or the AUTEC remote control system.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Roto models (MCSS and others)
- P 34.7
- TF-30.9
- 40.30 MCSS
- 50.18
- 40.25 MCS
- 40.17
- MPR15
Check the cause
Check power supply to the relevant module to ensure it is stable and within the optimal range of 10-16 V
Check fuses, as a blown fuse can disable functions and trigger faults
Review machine state (e.g., ensure parking brake is properly engaged and PTO is not active)
Inspect wiring and connections for damaged wiring, loose plugs, or bad connections on the main board, CAN bus, and boom head
Repair steps
Check wiring for sensor/encoder faults
For Sensor and Encoder Faults (e.g., 216, 218, 219): Inspect the wiring to the specific sensor (e.g., turret angle sensor, boom length encoder).
Recalibrate sensor/encoder
For Sensor and Encoder Faults: Recalibrate the sensor through the service menu or using the MERlin diagnostic key (part number 046531). A boom length potentiometer may need to be replaced and then calibrated.
Check mechanical components
For Sensor and Encoder Faults: For a 'length sensor + rope error' (code 219), inspect the rope and limit switches for mechanical issues.
Replace sensor
For Sensor and Encoder Faults: If wiring and calibration do not resolve the issue, the sensor itself may need to be replaced.
Check joystick wiring
For Joystick Faults (e.g., 217, 218, 219): Inspect the joystick wiring.
Calibrate joystick
For Joystick Faults: Calibrate the joystick, which is often done in the service menu.
Replace joystick
For Joystick Faults: If calibration fails, the joystick may be faulty and require replacement.
Check AUTEC wiring
For AUTEC Remote Control Faults (e.g., 216, 217, 218): Check the wiring associated with the AUTEC system.
