New Holland 10008 – Suspension Control Module: Suspension System Unable to Return to Set Point

Issue description

The tractor's front suspension system has failed to move to or maintain its designated height or position. The electronic control system commands adjustments to the suspension height based on operational conditions, and this code is triggered when the system detects that the axle has not reached or has deviated from this target position within an expected timeframe. This indicates a potential issue with the system's ability to maintain or restore its intended position, typically pointing to a failure within the hydraulic or electronic control components of the front axle suspension.

Check the cause

  1. Test hydraulic accumulator pressure (the most common cause of this fault). Safely relieve all hydraulic system pressure, then use a charging kit to measure the nitrogen pre-charge pressure (commonly 20 bar / 290 PSI)

  2. Check system hydraulic pressure in the suspension circuit. The high-pressure circuit range should be 2900-3625 PSI; low pressure could indicate a problem with the hydraulic pump or relief valves

  3. Perform a visual inspection of the front suspension components, including hydraulic lines, control valve block, and sensors, for any signs of leaks, damage, or loose connections

  4. Check for other active fault codes using the tractor's diagnostic menu (codes related to suspension potentiometers, solenoids, or pressure sensors can help pinpoint the issue)

  5. Inspect the electrical system for stable voltage and clean, tight ground connections, as well as wiring and connectors to the suspension control solenoids and position sensors for damage or corrosion

Repair steps

  1. Prepare machine for service

Park the tractor on a hard, level surface, engage the parking brake, and lower all attachments to the ground. Shut down the engine, remove the key, and chock the wheels to prevent movement.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Before disconnecting any hydraulic components, relieve all system pressure. This can often be done through a manual bleed screw on the control valve block or by cycling key-off functions.

  3. Test and recharge or replace accumulators

If an accumulator has lost its pre-charge, recharge it with dry nitrogen to the manufacturer's specified pressure. If the internal diaphragm or bladder has failed and will not hold a charge, unscrew the faulty accumulator and replace it with a new one, ensuring all sealing surfaces are clean and installing new O-rings.

  4. Repair hydraulic or electrical faults

If diagnostics revealed other issues such as leaking hoses, faulty solenoids, or damaged wiring, repair or replace these components as necessary.

  5. Perform suspension calibration

After any repair, perform a suspension calibration to allow the control module to re-learn the upper and lower limits of the suspension travel. Access the 'H1' service menu in the diagnostic display, start the engine, set it to a specific RPM (e.g., 1200 RPM), and follow the on-screen prompts.
