New Holland 1002 – Hitch Controller / EDC (Electronic Draft Control): Raise hitch valve coil short to 12 volts or raise hitch valve coil circuit failure

Issue description

The controller has detected an electrical fault—either a short to the 12-volt power supply or an open/failed circuit—in the wiring or the coil of the solenoid responsible for raising the hitch.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series (T8.275, T8.300, T8.380, T8.390, T8.410)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the raise hitch valve coil for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short to 12V.

  2. Ensure the connectors are fully seated and not damaged. Verify that the pins are in the correct position, free of corrosion, and that the terminal fit is tight.

  3. Disconnect the connectors and use a multimeter to check for continuity across the circuit and verify that the ground is not shorted to power.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the raise hitch solenoid valve

Locate the raise hitch solenoid valve on the rear hydraulic/hitch valve block.

  2. Disconnect the electrical harness

Disconnect the electrical harness from the raise hitch valve coil.

  3. Perform diagnostic checks

Perform the diagnostic continuity and voltage checks on the harness side to rule out a wiring short to 12 volts.

  4. Repair or replace wiring harness

If the wiring harness is damaged, repair or replace the affected wire/connector.

  5. Remove the old coil

If the harness tests good (providing proper voltage and ground without shorts), the failure is internal to the raise hitch valve coil itself. Remove the retaining nut/clip holding the coil to the valve cartridge and slide the old coil off.

  6. Install the new hitch solenoid coil

Install the new hitch solenoid coil and secure it.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  8. Clear fault codes and test

Clear the fault codes and test the hitch operation. If the fault code is no longer present, return the machine to proper operation.
