New Holland 1006 – Hitch Controller (TCU / ATC): EDC Low Side Driver stuck on failure.
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault in the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system. Specifically, the low side driver (the circuit inside the controller that provides the ground path to activate the hitch valve solenoids) is stuck in a failed state. This is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a shorted solenoid coil on the hitch valve, or an internal hardware failure within the controller itself.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- New Holland T8 Series (T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390, T8.410, T8.435)
- New Holland T9 Series
- New Holland T7 Series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the Hitch Controller/TCU and the rear hitch valve assembly for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the hitch valve solenoids (raise and lower coils) and check the connectors for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.
Measure the resistance of the hitch valve solenoid coils using a multimeter to check for an internal short (which draws excessive current and shuts down the driver).
Check if the controller is outputting the correct voltage/ground signal when a hitch command is given to verify controller functionality.
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If a short to ground is found in the harness during the diagnostic phase, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Replace Solenoid/Valve
If a hitch valve solenoid coil tests out of specification (shorted or open), replace the solenoid coil. In some cases, if the valve spool is mechanically binding and causing the coil to overheat/fail, the entire hitch valve assembly may need to be replaced.
Replace Controller
If the wiring is perfectly intact and the solenoids are functioning, the low side driver inside the Hitch Controller/TCU has likely suffered a permanent hardware failure. The controller will need to be replaced.
Calibrate
After replacing the solenoid, valve, or controller, use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool or Jaltest) to clear the inactive fault codes and perform a full EDC / Rear Hitch Calibration.
