New Holland 1007 – Hitch Controller: Low side driver watchdog test failed

This fault code indicates an internal safety check failure within the hitch control system. The controller performs an internal 'watchdog' self-test to ensure it can safely switch the ground path off. If the test fails, the controller cannot guarantee that it can stop the hitch from moving, and the system will typically lock out hitch functions to prevent uncommanded movement.

   Check for accompanying codes (1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1008, or 1009) that specifically indicate shorts or open circuits in the raise/lower solenoids.

   Disconnect the hitch raise and lower solenoids at the hydraulic valve block and measure resistance across the coil pins to ensure they are within OEM spec and not internally shorted.

   With solenoids and Hitch Controller disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the solenoid harness wires and the tractor chassis (ground) to identify any rubbed or chafed wires.

   Verify the Hitch Controller is receiving clean 12V power and has a solid ground connection.

   Isolate the Battery

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Inspect and Repair Wiring

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the harness, trace the harness from the rear hitch valve block back to the cab/controller. Repair any chafed wires and re-loom the harness.

   Replace Faulty Solenoids

   If the hitch raise or lower solenoid failed the resistance test or is shorted to its own casing, unbolt the retaining nut on the valve block, slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge, and install a new OEM solenoid.

   Replace the Hitch Controller

   If the wiring harness and solenoids test perfectly fine, the low-side driver transistor inside the Hitch Controller has permanently failed. Locate the Hitch Controller (TCU/EDC), disconnect the multi-pin CAN/power connectors, unbolt the module and install the replacement.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the controller or solenoids, reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's display panel or a dealer diagnostic tool (like the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to perform a hydraulic lift autocalibration so the new controller can learn the hitch potentiometer limits and valve drop rates.
