New Holland 1008 – Hitch Controller (EDC): Low side of raise solenoid connected permanently to GND.
Issue description
This indicates a short-to-ground condition on the low side (the ground return circuit) of the hitch raise solenoid. The controller is detecting a continuous ground path on the return wire from the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) raise valve. This is a critical safety fault, as an uncommanded ground could cause the rear hitch to raise unexpectedly, or prompt the controller to disable the hitch entirely.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- New Holland T8.xxx Series (e.g., T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390, T8.420)
- New Holland T6 Series
- New Holland T7 Series
- New Holland TM Series
- New Holland TS Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Hitch Controller to the EDC valve block at the rear of the tractor for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation touching the chassis.
Perform a harness continuity test by disconnecting the electrical connector at the raise solenoid and the Hitch Controller, then use a multimeter to check for continuity between the low-side wire (return circuit) and chassis ground.
Test the solenoid coil itself by measuring the resistance between the solenoid's ground pin and its metal housing. Continuity indicates the solenoid is internally shorted to ground.
Inspect the connector pins at the solenoid and the ECU for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit to ground.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage or accidental hitch movement.
Locate the Valve
Locate the EDC (Electronic Draft Control) hydraulic valve block, typically mounted at the rear of the tractor near the hitch assembly.
Identify the Solenoid
Identify the "Raise" solenoid on the valve block (consult your specific model's hydraulic schematic if the raise and lower solenoids are not labeled).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the raise solenoid.
Harness Repair
If your diagnostics revealed a shorted wire, splice and repair the damaged section of the harness using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the pigtail.
Solenoid Replacement
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off the cartridge. Slide the new OEM replacement solenoid coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to spec.
Reassembly
Plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.
Clear and Calibrate
Turn the ignition on and clear the fault codes using the tractor's onboard display or a diagnostic tool. Start the tractor and perform a hitch calibration procedure (often required when EDC components are replaced or power is lost).
Test
Test the hitch raise and lower functions to verify the repair.
