1012

New Holland 1012 – Hitch: No communication with the ACM (Armrest Controller Module)

Issue description

The controller area network (CAN bus) has lost the data signal from the armrest control unit. When this happens, the system cannot receive operator commands (such as position commands or load commands) from the armrest controls.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series
  • New Holland T8.415

Check the cause

  1. Verify power and ground circuits going to the Armrest Controller Module (ACM) to ensure it is receiving power.

  2. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Hitch controller and the ACM for physical damage, chafing, or broken wires.

  3. Examine the electrical connectors at the ACM for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

  4. Perform a system-wide scan using a diagnostic scan tool (such as New Holland Electronic Service Tool or Jaltest) to see if other modules are also reporting a loss of communication with the ACM.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or spikes during the repair.

  2. Access the Module

Disassemble the right-hand armrest console in the cab to access the Armrest Controller Module (ACM).

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the main wiring harness from the ACM. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If any wiring damage is found during the diagnostic phase, repair the harness as needed.

  4. Test the System

Reconnect the harness, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Cycle the ignition to see if code 1012 returns.

  5. Replace the ACM

If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good but communication cannot be established, the ACM has failed internally. Remove the mounting screws (e.g., M3 x 8 screws) securing the ACM and remove the faulty unit.

  6. Install the New Module

Mount the replacement ACM and reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Calibrate and Program

Connect the OEM diagnostic tool to flash the correct software dataset to the new ACM and calibrate the armrest controls so they communicate properly with the Hitch module and TCU.
