New Holland 1017 – Hitch Controller (TMF / TCU): Hitch Position Command value received over the CAN data bus from the Armrest indicates the Position Command potentiometer has failed

The potentiometer located in the armrest, which the operator uses to command the rear hitch position, is sending an invalid, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal to the controller.

   Inspect the hitch position command potentiometer (cab) and its physical linkage in the armrest for proper installation, mechanical interference, or physical damage.

   Check the wiring harness and circuit between the hitch position command potentiometer and the Armrest Controller for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Look for related Armrest (ARM) codes (e.g., ARM 9011 or ARM 9021) which may indicate memory loss or calibration issues.

   Attempt to recalibrate the armrest controller before condemning the part, as it may have lost calibration parameters.

   Enter Calibration Mode

   Turn the ignition key ON. Within the first 10 seconds of turning the key, enter the Armrest Controller Calibration mode through the programmable display on the standard instrument cluster (ICU2).

   Navigate to the Hitch Menu

   Use the INCR and DECR keys on the display to toggle through the main menus until you reach the HITCH menu.

   Run Calibration

   Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the hitch position command potentiometer.

   Evaluate Results

   If the calibration fails and logs fault code ARM 9021 (Hitch position command potentiometer calibration results not acceptable), the potentiometer has internally failed and must be replaced.

   Replace the Potentiometer

   Disconnect the battery. Disassemble the right-hand armrest console to access the Hitch Position Command potentiometer. Remove the faulty potentiometer, install the new replacement, and ensure the mechanical linkage is seated correctly.

   Recalibrate

   After installing the new part, you must repeat Steps 1-3 to calibrate the new potentiometer to the Armrest Controller.
