New Holland 1026 – Hitch: Up/Down remote fender switch failure

The controller is receiving an invalid, out-of-range, or continuous "stuck" signal from the external momentary switch located on the rear fender, which is used by the operator to raise and lower the 3-point hitch from outside the cab.

   Inspect the physical condition of the rear fender up/down switch to see if the momentary rocker is physically stuck, packed with mud/debris, or damaged.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the switch. Ensure the connectors are not damaged, pins are in the correct position, there is no water ingress or corrosion, and ensure the fit is tight.

   Check the wiring harness between the fender switch and the Hitch ECU for continuity. Test for open circuits or shorts to ground.

   Use a multimeter to test the switch itself. Verify that it shows an open circuit when at rest and proper continuity only when the 'Up' or 'Down' buttons are actively depressed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, lower the 3-point hitch to the ground (if possible), and remove the key to de-energize the Hitch ECU.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty up/down remote hitch switch on the rear fender. Reach behind the fender panel to access the wiring.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it outward through the fender opening.

   Install the New Part

   Snap the new OEM remote hitch switch into the fender opening until the retaining tabs click securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the switch, ensuring the weather-tight seal is intact and the connector locks.

   Test and Clear

   Turn the tractor on. You may need to "recapture" the 3-point hitch using the in-cab quick raise/lower toggle switch before the system will allow the fender switches to operate. Test the fender switch operation and clear the 1026 fault code from the system.
