New Holland 1027 – Armrest Controller (ARU) / Hitch Controller (ATC) / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) Module: Not Implemented / Lift Arm Position Voltage Low

Issue description

In newer CAN-bus systems, indicates a software configuration or communication mismatch where a controller receives a signal for an unsupported feature. In older EDC systems, indicates the maximum lift arm position potentiometer voltage is too low, pointing to a physical electrical failure.

Check the cause

  1. For 'Not Implemented' (Configuration Issue): Verify if any new switches, joysticks, or sensors were recently installed or replaced in the cab/armrest.

  2. For 'Not Implemented' (Configuration Issue): Check the tractor's software configuration to ensure the Armrest controller settings match the physical hardware.

  3. For 'Not Implemented' (Configuration Issue): Check the CAN data bus for communication loss between the Armrest and Hitch controllers.

  4. For 'Lift Arm Position' (Electrical Issue): Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear lift arm position sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or a short to ground.

  5. For 'Lift Arm Position' (Electrical Issue): Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify a steady 5V reference and a good ground at the connector.

  6. For 'Lift Arm Position' (Electrical Issue): Measure the resistance sweep of the potentiometer while manually moving the lift arms to check for dead spots.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

    For 'Not Implemented': Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to configurations

    For 'Not Implemented': Navigate to the Armrest Controller (ARU) and Hitch Controller configurations.

  3. Review and disable options

    For 'Not Implemented': Review the installed options. If a feature (like a specific remote switch or draft pin) is enabled in the software but not physically present on the tractor, disable it in the configuration.

  4. Perform module configuration

    For 'Not Implemented': If a new controller was recently installed, perform a complete module configuration and calibration to match the tractor's build sheet.

  5. Clear fault codes

    For 'Not Implemented': Clear the fault codes and cycle the key to verify the code does not return.

  6. Locate potentiometer

    For 'Lift Arm Position Voltage Low': Locate the lift arm position potentiometer on the rear rockshaft/linkage.

  7. Remove faulty sensor

    For 'Lift Arm Position Voltage Low': If the 5V reference and ground are good but the signal voltage is out of range (too low), remove the faulty sensor.

  8. Install new sensor

    For 'Lift Arm Position Voltage Low': Install the new lift arm position sensor, ensuring the mechanical drive element/linkage is properly aligned.

  9. Reconnect wiring

    For 'Lift Arm Position Voltage Low': Reconnect the wiring harness.

  10. Perform autocalibration

    For 'Lift Arm Position Voltage Low': You must perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration (often associated with code 1024) after replacing the sensor so the EDC module learns the new minimum and maximum voltage limits.
