1036

New Holland 1036 – ARU (Arm Rest Unit / Arm Rest Module): The ARU reports EDC Inching Up switch faulty or not available.

Issue description

The EDC (Electronic Draft Control) manages the 3-point hitch system. The Inching Up Switch is the external remote switch used to incrementally raise the hitch. The code triggers when the system detects an open circuit, a short circuit, or a lack of communication from this specific switch.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series (e.g., T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390, T8.410)

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the external rear fender EDC Inching Up switch for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or water/dirt ingress.

  2. Disconnect the switch and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the wiring harness between the fender switch and the ARU for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

  4. Test the switch itself with a multimeter to verify if it properly opens and closes the circuit when pressed. If it reads open (infinite resistance) while pressed, the switch has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the faulty EDC Inching Up switch on the rear fender/mudguard.

  3. Disconnect

Reach behind the fender panel and unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it outward to remove it from the fender housing/bracket.

  5. Install

Push the new OEM switch into the fender cutout until the retaining clips snap securely into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness connector into the new switch, ensuring the weather seal is seated properly.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's display. Stand clear of the linkage and test the external fender switch to ensure the 3-point hitch raises correctly.
