New Holland 1037 – Hitch Controller / ARU (Arm Rest Unit / Armrest Module): The ARU reports EDC Inching Down switch faulty or not available
Issue description
The controller is detecting an abnormal signal from the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) "Inching Down" switch. The circuit is likely open, shorted to ground, shorted to power, or the switch itself is mechanically stuck or internally failed. Because the controller cannot verify the switch's state, it disables the inching function for safety to prevent uncommanded lowering of the 3-point hitch.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- New Holland T8.xxx Series (e.g., T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390)
- New Holland T6 series
- New Holland T7 series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the EDC Inching Down switches (rear fender mudguards and/or armrest console) for physical damage, heavy dirt ingress, or a stuck button.
Inspect the wiring harness leading from the switch to the ARU for chafed wires, pinched harnesses near fender mounts, or corrosion inside the electrical connector.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity across the switch contacts (circuit should close only when pressed and open when released).
Check for related codes (e.g., 1036: EDC Inching Up switch faulty). If both are present, it suggests a shared wiring harness issue, damaged connector, or lost shared ground.
Repair steps
Prepare the tractor for service
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the 3-point hitch fully (if possible), turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the faulty switch
Locate the faulty EDC Inching Down switch (diagnostics will dictate whether the failure is at the rear fender remote switch or the cab armrest switch).
Disconnect the electrical harness
Carefully reach behind the fender panel or armrest bezel and disconnect the electrical harness connector from the back of the switch.
Remove the faulty switch
Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining screws, depending on the exact trim) and push the switch out of its mounting hole.
Install the new switch
Snap the new OEM replacement switch into the mounting hole until it clicks securely into place.
Reconnect the electrical harness
Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the locking tab engages.
Restore power
Reconnect the battery ground cable and turn the ignition key to the ON position.
Clear fault codes
Clear the inactive fault codes using the tractor's instrument cluster diagnostic menu or a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Test the repair
Test the 3-point hitch operation using the newly installed inching switch to verify the repair.
