New Holland 1100 – EDC: Electronic Draft Control Top Link Switch Stuck On
Issue description
The signal from the hitch's upper position sensor is illogical or has not changed when expected, indicating a sticking or seized component in the drawbar electronic control system. This prevents the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system from accurately determining the height of the lift arms, which can cause improper operation or complete failure of the implement control system.

Check the cause
Carefully inspect the top link switch and its wiring harness for any visible signs of damage, such as corrosion, frayed wires, or loose connections.
Manually actuate the switch to ensure it is not physically stuck. It should move freely and not be obstructed.
Clear all fault codes from the EDC module to determine if the fault is intermittent or persistent.
Examine the wiring harness between the top link switch and the EDC module for any signs of damage, such as chafing or pinching, which could cause a short circuit.
Repair steps
Confirm the fault
After clearing the fault codes, operate the tractor and the three-point hitch to see if the 1100 fault code returns. If it does, proceed with further diagnostics.
Test the switch
Disconnect the wiring harness from the top link switch. Using a digital multimeter, test the continuity of the switch in both the 'on' and 'off' positions. With the switch in the 'off' position, there should be no continuity (an open circuit). With the switch in the 'on' position, there should be continuity (a closed circuit). If the switch shows continuity in both positions, it is internally shorted and needs to be replaced.
Test the wiring
With the switch disconnected, use a multimeter to check for a short to ground or a short to power in the wiring harness leading back to the EDC module. If a short is detected in the harness, it will need to be repaired or replaced. Wiring diagrams for the specific tractor model, such as those available for the TM series, will be essential for this step.
Replace the faulty component
If the switch is determined to be faulty, replace it with a new OEM or equivalent part. If the wiring is faulty, repair the damaged section, ensuring all connections are secure and properly insulated.
Final system check
After replacing the faulty component, reconnect all wiring, clear any stored fault codes, and perform a full operational check of the Electronic Draft Control system to ensure the repair was successful.
