111

New Holland 111 – ARM: Aux 4th Remote Potentiometer Failure

Issue description

The Armrest Controller has detected a failure in the potentiometer associated with the 4th auxiliary remote valve lever. This potentiometer translates the physical position of the control lever into an electrical signal to command hydraulic flow. A failure indicates the signal is outside the expected range, erratic, or non-existent, which prevents proper operation of the valve control function.

Applies to these machines

  • T Series
  • T6.xxx
  • T7.xxx
  • T8.xxx
  • TG Series
  • TM Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify fault code 111 is active using a diagnostic tool and note any other related active fault codes.

  2. Check battery and system voltage, ensuring clean and tight battery terminals and main ground connections, as low voltage can cause electronic faults.

  3. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to and within the armrest assembly for chafing, pinching, or breaks, paying close attention to armrest pivot points.

  4. Disconnect and inspect connectors between the armrest and main chassis harness for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

  5. Perform a total resistance test on the potentiometer using a multimeter across the two outer terminals to check for an open circuit (infinite resistance) or short circuit (near zero resistance).

  6. Perform a wiper function test by measuring resistance between the center (wiper) and outer terminal while moving the lever, looking for smooth changes without erratic readings or dead spots.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Disconnect the battery before beginning any repair work to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Armrest Internals

The procedure to open the armrest will vary by tractor model. Generally, this involves removing screws from the underside or side panels of the armrest assembly.

  3. Locate the Potentiometer

Identify the potentiometer for the 4th auxiliary remote lever. It will be mechanically linked to the lever.

  4. Remove the Faulty Potentiometer

Disconnect the electrical connector. Note the routing of the wires. Remove any screws or clips securing the potentiometer to the lever mechanism.

  5. Install the New Potentiometer

Mount the new potentiometer, ensuring it is correctly oriented and mechanically linked to the lever. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  6. Reassemble the Armrest

Securely fasten all panels and components that were removed.

  7. Reconnect the Battery

    Re-establish power to the tractor.

  8. Clear Fault Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code 111 from the ARM/TMF controller's memory.

  9. Calibrate (if required)

Some systems may require a calibration of the remote valve levers after replacement. This is performed through the tractor's diagnostic menu or with a service tool. Check the operator's manual or service information for specific calibration procedures for the model in question.

  10. Verify Operation

Start the tractor and test the functionality of the 4th auxiliary remote valve to ensure it is operating correctly.
