New Holland 132 – ECM: Decelerator or Hand Throttle Position Potentiometer Voltage Too Low
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the voltage signal from the decelerator pedal or hand throttle position potentiometer is below the expected minimum threshold (typically less than 0.75 VDC for more than one second). This indicates a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the signal wire, or an internal failure of the sensor itself, which affects the proper operation of the engine control system and forces the machine into a limp-home mode with severely reduced power and speed.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the hand throttle and/or decelerator pedal potentiometer for chafing, cuts, pinched wires, or corrosion on the connector pins.
Ensure the sensor connector is securely fastened and check for any non-factory wiring modifications spliced into the throttle circuit.
With the key OFF and sensor disconnected, perform a potentiometer electrical test by measuring total resistance across the outer terminals (should read the rated resistance, e.g., 2500 or 5000 Ohms).
Perform a wiper sweep test by keeping one probe on an outer terminal and moving the other to the center (signal) terminal while actuating the throttle/decelerator; resistance should change smoothly without jumps or dropouts to zero (short) or infinity/OL (open). Repeat for the other side.
With the key ON and sensor disconnected, check the harness supply voltage (should be approximately 5 VDC between supply and return pins).
Check the harness signal wire for a short to ground by measuring voltage from the signal pin to chassis ground (should be close to 0 volts).
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn the ignition off and disconnect the battery's negative terminal as a safety precaution.
Access the component
Remove trim panels around the steering column, dash, right-hand console, or floor panels as needed to access the hand throttle or decelerator pedal assembly.
Remove the faulty potentiometer
Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting hardware, and carefully note the orientation of the old part before removal.
Install the new potentiometer
Mount the new sensor in the exact same orientation as the old one. Secure with original hardware (do not overtighten) and reconnect the electrical connector.
Reassemble and reconnect
Reinstall all removed panels and covers, then reconnect the battery negative terminal.
Calibrate the new sensor
Perform a throttle calibration routine using the instrument cluster's 'H-Menu' or the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to teach the ECM the new sensor's voltage range for idle and full throttle.
