New Holland 14003 – INST: Hydraulic Oil Filter Switch Shorted to Ground on Power Up
Issue description
The hydraulic system oil filter sensor is experiencing a short to ground when power is applied. This electronic pressure sensor monitors the pressure drop across the hydraulic filter to detect clogging and prevent hydraulic pump starvation. A short to ground indicates the sensor's signal circuit has an unintended connection to the vehicle's chassis or another ground path, causing a constant, incorrect warning signal and leading to improper operation of the hydraulic system monitoring function.

Check the cause
Inspect the hydraulic filter for genuine restriction or clogging (symptoms include weak lifting power, slow or jerky implement movement, and a whining hydraulic pump)
Check hydraulic fluid level and condition (milky fluid indicates water contamination, while dark or dirty fluid suggests excessive wear)
Inspect the wiring harness connected to the hydraulic filter sensor for chafing, breaks, or corrosion, particularly where the harness may rub against the engine or chassis
Disconnect the electrical connector at the sensor and the corresponding connector at the control module to inspect pins and terminals for corrosion, moisture, or a loose connection
Repair steps
Isolate the fault
Disconnect the wiring harness from the hydraulic filter restriction sensor.
Test the sensor
With the sensor disconnected, use a multimeter to check for a short circuit between the sensor's signal pin and its ground or casing. If a short is detected, the sensor is faulty and requires replacement.
Test the wiring
If the sensor tests okay, check for continuity between the signal wire in the harness and a known good ground point on the chassis. If continuity exists, there is a short in the harness that needs to be located and repaired.
Replace the part
If the sensor is determined to be faulty, replace it with a new OEM or equivalent part.
Clear codes and verify repair
After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, clear the fault codes from the control module and operate the machine to ensure the code does not return.
