New Holland 15007 – Steering Controller: Split Valve LVDT Short Circuit
Issue description
The Steering Controller has detected a short circuit in the electrical signal from the Split Valve LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer). This sensor measures the precise position of the split valve spool within the Fast Steer hydraulic valve. A short circuit indicates the signal wire is improperly connected to ground or another wire, resulting in an out-of-range low voltage reading. This prevents the controller from determining the valve's position, which disables proper operation of the Fast Steer or Auto-Steer systems.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Split Valve LVDT on the Fast Steer valve assembly for chafed wires, pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use the on-board diagnostics H9 Menu (Voltmeter) to monitor the LVDT voltage signal in real-time while wiggling the harness to pinpoint intermittent shorts.
Perform a point-to-point continuity and short-to-ground test on the wiring between the Steering Controller and the Split Valve LVDT connector.
Check the HB Menu for other stored steering faults (such as 15006, 15008, or 15009) that could indicate a broader electrical issue.
Check hydraulic fluid for contamination and ensure it is at the correct level, as contaminated fluid can occasionally cause erratic valve operation.
Repair steps
Repair wiring harness
If damage is found during the visual inspection or continuity checks, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness. Ensure all connectors are clean and secure, then clear fault codes and re-check.
Calibrate LVDT sensor
If the wiring is confirmed to be intact, attempt to recalibrate the LVDT sensor using the H1 menu of the steering controller. A calibration failure (often indicated by a 'U74' error code) points to a faulty sensor or internal valve issue.
Replace Fast Steer hydraulic valve assembly
If the sensor fails to calibrate or provides consistently incorrect readings despite good wiring, replace the entire Fast Steer Hydraulic Valve Assembly. The LVDT is integrated into the valve and is not available separately.
Perform post-replacement calibration
After replacing the valve assembly, calibrate the new LVDT sensor using the H1 menu procedure to ensure the steering system functions correctly.
