New Holland 16 – Auxiliary Remote Valve Controller: EEPROM Inconsistent Software Fault

The internal non-volatile memory (EEPROM) inside the module has become corrupted, failed its self-diagnostic checksum, or suffered a hard software failure. The processor is integrated directly into the electronic hydraulic valve slice itself, meaning this fault typically indicates an internal failure of the valve slice.

   Perform a battery reset by disconnecting the tractor's battery for a short period to clear potential false EEPROM checksum errors caused by temporary voltage spikes.

   Check for accompanying active codes such as Code 21 (Supply voltage low), Code 22 (Supply voltage high), or Code 17 (CAN BUS message fault). Address any underlying voltage or wiring harness issues first, as erratic voltage can cause processor faults.

   Attempt to clear the code using a CNH diagnostic tool. If Code 16 immediately returns upon key-on, the internal memory of the valve is permanently damaged.

   Preparation

   Lower all implements to the ground, shut off the engine, relieve all hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery negative cable.

   Remove faulty valve slice

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty auxiliary valve slice. Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines. Unbolt the tie-rods holding the valve stack together and carefully remove the faulty slice.

   Install replacement valve slice

   Install the new replacement valve slice, ensuring new O-rings are used between slices. Re-torque the valve stack tie-rods, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical harness.

   Calibrate and synchronize new valve

   With the engine stopped and implement safe, turn ignition ON. Depress the timer switch on the new valve (light illuminates, '1' appears on display). Wait for light to extinguish and '2' to appear. Set flow control dial to maximum flow. Move in-cab remote valve lever to full raise/extend (light illuminates again). Wait for light to go off and '3' to appear, indicating successful calibration.
