16125

New Holland 16125 – Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module, hydraulic controller, or vehicle/transmission controller: High Pressure Switch Input Short to Power

Issue description

A control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the signal circuit for the high-pressure switch. This indicates that the signal wire has likely shorted to a power source, or the switch has failed internally and is sending a continuous high voltage signal back to the controller. This constant high voltage is outside the expected operating range, preventing the system from detecting normal pressure changes, which may cause improper operation or damage to related components.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the high-pressure switch for chafing, melting, or corrosion that could cause a short to power.

  2. Check the electrical connector at the switch for bent, broken, or corroded pins.

  3. Disconnect the switch and measure voltage on the harness signal pin (key on); presence of battery voltage indicates a short to power in the harness.

  4. Test the switch itself for proper continuity at rest and verify its state changes when system pressure reaches its setpoint (a switch showing constant continuity to power regardless of pressure has failed internally).

  5. Check system pressures (A/C high-side or hydraulic) using gauges to rule out actual overpressure conditions, though this typically opens the circuit rather than shorting it to power.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

Perform the diagnostic checks listed above to determine if the fault lies with the wiring harness or the switch itself.

  2. Repair Wiring

If a short to power is found in the wiring harness, carefully repair the damaged section. Cut out the damaged portion, splice in a new piece of wire of the same gauge, and ensure the connections are sealed with heat-shrink tubing to prevent future moisture ingress.

  3. Replace the High-Pressure Switch

If the switch is determined to be faulty, it must be replaced. For A/C Systems: The refrigerant system must be safely evacuated by a certified technician before removing the switch. For Hydraulic Systems: Ensure the hydraulic system is depressurized. Unscrew the old switch, apply thread sealant to the threads of the new switch, install and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten), and reconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Recharge and Test

For A/C Systems: Have the system evacuated and recharged with the correct type and amount of refrigerant. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or by cycling the vehicle's power. Operate the system and check for proper operation and to ensure the fault code does not return.
