New Holland 2363 – TCU: Odd Clutch Not Calibrated

Issue description

The transmission control module has detected that the odd-numbered gear clutch pack has lost its calibration settings. This typically arises after a component replacement, service, or if a new controller is installed. Failure to properly calibrate the clutch can result in harsh or delayed gear engagement, negatively affecting the performance of the tractor's transmission system.

Check the cause

  1. Check for other active fault codes, particularly those related to clutch solenoids (e.g., 2352 - Odd Clutch Solenoid shorted), sensors, or system voltage, as these will prevent a successful calibration.

  2. Verify transmission oil temperature is within the required range (typically 10°C to 60°C). Code U19 indicates the oil is too cold.

  3. Ensure engine speed is correct for calibration (approximately 1200 RPM). Codes U21 or U22 indicate incorrect RPM.

  4. Verify the operator is seated to activate the seat presence switch.

  5. Ensure pre-calibration conditions are met: handbrake engaged and shuttle lever in the correct position (neutral or forward depending on model).

Repair steps

  1. Warm up the tractor

Ensure the transmission oil is at the correct operating temperature (between 10°C and 60°C).

  2. Enter Calibration Mode

With the handbrake on and the engine off, press and hold both the upshift and downshift buttons. Start the engine and then release the buttons. The display should indicate calibration mode by showing 'CC' or the oil temperature.

  3. Set Engine RPM

Adjust the engine speed to approximately 1200 RPM.

  4. Initiate Calibration

Move the shuttle lever to the forward position.

  5. Automatic Calibration

On models with an 'Auto' function switch, pressing this will begin an automatic calibration of all clutches in sequence.

  6. Manual Calibration

For manual calibration, press the upshift button to select the clutch to be calibrated (starting with 'A'). Then, press and hold the downshift button to calibrate the selected clutch. Release the button to proceed to the next clutch.

  7. Completion

Once all clutches are calibrated, 'End' or 'CF' will typically appear on the display.

  8. Save Calibration Values

Turn the engine off and wait for at least 10 seconds to allow the new calibration values to be stored in the controller.

  9. Replace faulty components

If the calibration procedure fails repeatedly or the fault code persists, inspect and replace faulty transmission solenoids.
