New Holland 2421 – ECM: Range Switch Input Voltage Too Low
Issue description
The range switch input is reporting a voltage that is below the expected minimum threshold to the electronic control module. This indicates an electrical issue with the transmission's range selection system, such as a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the wiring harness, or an internal switch failure, which may affect the proper operation of the machine's range selection system.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the range switch and the main controller for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections
Use a multimeter to test the voltage at the switch and along the circuit to identify where the voltage drop is occurring (check for continuity and shorts to ground)
Test the functionality of the range switch itself to determine if it is operating correctly or has failed internally
Repair steps
Inspect wiring and connectors
Check the wiring harness and connectors between the range switch and the main controller for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Test electrical circuit
Use a multimeter to test the voltage at the switch and along the circuit to identify where the voltage drop is occurring. Check for continuity and look for shorts to ground.
Test range switch
Test the functionality of the range switch itself to determine if it is operating correctly or has failed internally.
Replace range switch
If the wiring and connectors are found to be in good condition but the switch has failed internally, replace the range switch.
