3001

New Holland 3001 – ECM: Foot Throttle Sensor - Signal Not Plausible

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a discrepancy between the two signals produced by the accelerator pedal assembly's potentiometers. Because the signals do not align within the expected range, the ECU considers the input not plausible, indicating a potential issue with signal integrity or the sensor itself. This safety measure typically triggers a dashboard warning and may cause the engine to derate to a low idle or 'limp mode' to prevent unintended acceleration.

Applies to these machines

  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T8.350
  • T7000
  • T7030
  • T6000
  • TM Series
  • Workmaster 50
  • Workmaster 60
  • Workmaster 70
  • Workmaster 95
  • Workmaster 105
  • Workmaster 120
  • Case Maxxum
  • Case PUMA
  • C227 Skid Steer
  • L218 Skid Steer

Check the cause

  1. Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the foot throttle sensor and the Engine Control Module for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  2. Check for any physical obstructions around the foot pedal that might impede its movement.

  3. With the key on, test for a 12-volt supply at the appropriate pin on the sensor's connector. If voltage is absent, check the corresponding fuse.

  4. Verify the integrity of the ground circuit by measuring the connection from the ground pin on the connector back to the controller.

  5. Test for the 5-volt reference signal from the ECU at the correct pin on the connector. If absent, the issue may lie within the circuit to the ECU or the ECU itself.

  6. Test the position potentiometer signal by monitoring the signal wire while operating the foot pedal. The voltage should change smoothly and consistently (typically from approximately 0.55V to 4.15V) without any dropouts or spikes.

  7. If equipped, test the idle switch functionality by checking for 0V when the pedal is up and 5V when the pedal is depressed at the corresponding pin.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the battery

Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and disconnect the battery as a safety precaution.

  2. Access the sensor

Locate the foot throttle sensor, which is part of the foot throttle pedal assembly. Access may require removing panels or covers in the cab.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the old sensor/pedal assembly

The foot throttle is typically bolted to the cab floor. Remove the mounting bolts to detach the assembly.

  5. Install the new assembly

Bolt the new foot throttle assembly into place using the existing mounting points.

  6. Reconnect the electrical connector

Securely plug the wiring harness into the new sensor.

  7. Reconnect the battery

    Re-establish the battery connection.

  8. Verify the repair

Turn the ignition on and check if the fault code has cleared. Operate the throttle to ensure the engine responds correctly. Check for the full range of motion of the pedal and ensure no linkages are binding.
