3010

New Holland 3010 – ECU: Boost Temperature Sensor Signal Above Range Maximum

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a voltage signal from the boost temperature sensor that exceeds the maximum allowable range. This indicates an abnormal condition in the sensor's output or its electrical circuit, leading the ECU to falsely read excessively high intake air temperatures. Because this sensor (typically a combined T-MAP sensor) measures air temperature and pressure in the intake manifold after the turbocharger, this fault can negatively affect the proper operation of the system, including fuel-to-air ratio management, turbo boost, and overall engine performance.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the boost temperature sensor and its electrical connector for damage, oil or dirt contamination, and loose connections.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor for chafing, breaks, or corrosion.

  3. Check for 5V reference: With key ON and engine OFF, disconnect the sensor and probe the harness side to verify a steady 5 volts from the ECU. Lack of 5V indicates a wiring or ECU fault.

  4. Check for ground: Test the ground wire in the harness connector to a known good chassis ground (should be close to zero ohms, or under 100mV on a voltage test).

  5. Check the signal wire: With the sensor disconnected and key ON, verify the signal wire has very low voltage to rule out a short to power.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning the repair for safety.

  2. Remove faulty sensor

Disconnect the electrical connector and carefully unscrew the boost temperature/pressure sensor from the intake manifold using an appropriate wrench.

  3. Clean mounting surface

Ensure the threaded port on the intake manifold is clean and free of debris before installing the new sensor.

  4. Install new sensor

Thread the new sensor into the intake manifold by hand to avoid cross-threading, ensure the O-ring is properly seated, and tighten to manufacturer specifications.

  5. Reconnect electricals

Securely attach the electrical connector to the new sensor until it clicks, then reconnect the negative battery terminal.

  6. Clear fault codes

After the repair is complete, use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code 3010 from the ECU's memory.

  7. Verify the repair

Start the engine and let it run. Re-scan for fault codes to ensure the issue is resolved. Monitor the engine's performance to confirm it is operating normally.
