New Holland 4113 – EHR: Rear Remote 1 Spool Not Neutral

Issue description

The control system has detected that the spool for the number 1 rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve is not in its centered, neutral position when the tractor's ignition is activated. This is a startup safety check designed to prevent unexpected hydraulic implement movement. When this condition occurs, the system will lock out the affected remote valve until the issue is resolved and the tractor is restarted, which will affect the proper operation of the hydraulic system connected to this valve.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the physical control lever for remote #1 is in its central, neutral position and has not been physically knocked.

  2. Inspect the remote valve spool at the rear of the tractor for mechanical obstructions such as debris or ice preventing it from centering.

  3. Isolate the faulty lever by wiggling each remote lever one at a time; the lever that temporarily clears the fault warning is likely the one with the issue.

  4. Scan for other active fault codes (e.g., CAN bus communication, low voltage). Note that codes 4111 ('Position Transducer Faulty') or 4112 ('Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral') point more directly to a valve or sensor failure.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the armrest controller and back to the rear remote valve stack, paying close attention to the large harness at the articulation point on articulated tractors for chafing.

  6. Check the electrical connector at the #1 remote valve solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or damage, and ensure it is securely plugged in.

Repair steps

  1. Recalibrate the remote valve levers

Access the hydraulic or armrest calibration menu through the tractor's corner post display or instrument cluster. Follow the on-screen prompts to move each remote lever to its full extent (raise/extend and lower/retract) and leave it in neutral to teach the controller the correct positions. On some models like the T9 series, a special tool (380001903) may be required to connect to the valve block for calibration. If calibration fails repeatedly, proceed to step 2.

  2. Test and replace the armrest control lever

If calibration does not fix the issue, the electronic potentiometer inside the armrest control lever has likely failed and is sending an incorrect 'off-neutral' signal. Replace the control lever for remote #1. After installation, perform a new calibration to synchronize the new component with the system.

  3. Inspect and test the remote valve assembly

If a new, calibrated lever does not solve the problem, check the solenoids on the valve block for remote #1 to ensure they are receiving power. Check the internal position transducer that reports the spool's location to the controller. Check for a mechanically sticking spool due to internal wear or hydraulic fluid contamination, and drain/flush the hydraulic system if severe contamination is present. A signal valve pressure test can also be performed to check if the load-sensing lines are functioning correctly.
