4116

New Holland 4116 – ARU or dedicated hydraulic controller: Remote Valve 2 EEPROM Error

Issue description

The system has detected a memory or data storage problem within the electronic component of the number 2 electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve. The EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) stores crucial configuration and calibration data. When this data becomes corrupt or inaccessible, the associated remote valve malfunctions and cannot operate normally.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the power supply and check for related under-voltage (4118) or over-voltage (4119) fault codes, as electrical instability can cause memory errors. Ensure that the battery and charging system are functioning correctly.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the number 2 remote valve for signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections

  3. Attempt to clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's display, and monitor if the code reappears immediately or upon valve operation

  4. Attempt to recalibrate and renumber the EHR valves (often via the 'HJ' or 'H' menu on the tractor's display) to resolve potential data conflicts. Disconnect the problematic valve and follow the on-screen prompts to have the controller re-identify the valves in sequence.

Repair steps

  1. Replace remote valve electronic control

If diagnostic checks and recalibration do not resolve the issue, replace the electronic control unit (pilot head) of the number 2 remote valve. Note that this electronic part is often integral to the valve section, requiring the entire valve assembly to be replaced.

  2. Perform post-replacement calibration

After replacing the hardware, access the 'H' or 'HJ' menu on the tractor's display to perform the EHR valve renumbering and calibration procedure. This allows the main controller to recognize and store the identity of the new valve. Failure to do this will result in the new component not functioning and the fault code persisting.
