4116

New Holland 4116 – Rear Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves (AUX or HJ): REMOTE NO.2 EEPROM ERROR

Issue description

The system has detected an error with the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) of the number 2 rear electronic hydraulic remote valve. The EEPROM is a memory chip that stores essential data for the valve's operation, including its identification number within the hydraulic system and calibration settings. An error in this memory indicates a problem with the memory storage of the component, which can lead to a loss of function or unpredictable behavior of the specific remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • T7.220
  • T7.235
  • T7.250
  • T7.260
  • T7.270
  • T6000 Series
  • Puma
  • T7030
  • T7040
  • TM120
  • TM130
  • Compact Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and ensure all main ground connections to the chassis are clean and secure, as electronic systems are sensitive to low voltage

  2. Check for other active fault codes (such as 4118 for under-voltage, 4119 for over-voltage, or 4114 for communication issues) using the diagnostic display or Electronic Service Tool (EST)

  3. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the number 2 remote valve for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections

  4. Cycle power by shutting the tractor down, waiting for a few moments, and restarting to see if it clears temporary electronic glitches

Repair steps

  1. Clear existing valve numbers

With all rear remote valves connected to the harness, access the 'HJ' menu on the tractor's display. The display should show 'EEhr'. Press and hold the dimming button; the display will count down from 5 to 1 and then show 'CEhr', indicating the valve numbers have been cleared. Turn the key start to the OFF position.

  2. Reprogram valve number 1

Disconnect the wiring harness from all rear remote valves except for valve number 1. Turn the key start ON and navigate back to the HJ menu. Follow the specific prompts on your model to assign the number 1 to this valve. Turn the key start OFF.

  3. Reprogram valve number 2

Reconnect valve number 1 and connect the harness to valve number 2 (the valve associated with fault 4116). Disconnect the others. Turn the key start ON and repeat the process to assign the number 2 to this valve. Continue this process for all remaining rear remote valves, programming them one by one in the correct sequence.

  4. Finalize reprogramming

Once all valves are reprogrammed, turn the key start OFF and wait at least 10 seconds for the new settings to be stored in the EEPROM. Turn the key start ON and check if the fault code 4116 has cleared and if the remote valve functions correctly.

  5. Replace remote valve assembly

If the reprogramming procedure fails or the fault code returns immediately, it is highly likely that the electronic module on the remote valve has failed. Replace the valve assembly and repeat the reprogramming procedure.
