New Holland 5024 – Rear PTO: PTO Clutch Lube Solenoid Circuit Issue

Issue description

The Rear PTO controller has detected an electrical issue with the PTO clutch lube solenoid circuit, such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or low +12 VF3 voltage. This solenoid controls hydraulic oil flow for lubricating the PTO clutch pack on 4WD models. Alternatively, depending on the software version or model, this code can indicate that the Rear PTO controller has lost its calibration values and requires a recalibration routine to learn the correct operational parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • T8 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T6 Series
  • Case Puma

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the rear PTO control area for chafed wires, breaks, or corrosion (Cause 1: Circuit Issue)

  2. Check all fuses related to the PTO and transmission controllers to rule out a low voltage supply (Cause 1: Circuit Issue)

  3. With the key on, check for +12V power at the solenoid's electrical connector (Cause 1: Circuit Issue)

  4. Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to check resistance across its pins; also check the wiring harness for continuity and shorts to chassis ground (Cause 1: Circuit Issue)

  5. Attempt the Rear PTO calibration procedure; repeated failures may indicate an underlying mechanical or electrical issue (Cause 2: Calibration)

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the fault

Using the diagnostic checks, determine if the fault lies with the wiring, a connector, or the solenoid itself (Cause 1: Circuit Issue).

  2. Repair wiring harness

If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the affected section of the harness. Ensure all connections are clean and secure (Cause 1: Circuit Issue).

  3. Replace PTO clutch lube solenoid

If the solenoid is determined to be faulty, replace it (often located near the transmission or under the cab). Clear the fault codes and test all PTO functions multiple times (Cause 1: Circuit Issue).

  4. Perform Rear PTO calibration

Warm transmission oil above 50°C. Enter the diagnostic H-Menu by holding the upshift and downshift buttons simultaneously while starting the engine. Navigate to the PTO calibration section (often 'PT'), place the tractor in neutral with the park brake engaged, and follow on-screen prompts. Turn the tractor off for at least 10 seconds to store the new values, then verify operation (Cause 2: Calibration).

Parts you might need
