New Holland 9003 – MCC1 / MIU: CAN Address Control Input Shorted

Issue description

The system detects a high signal or a short to power at the CAN address control input during machine initialization. This prevents the affected controller (Master Implement Unit or Miscellaneous Case Controller 1) from receiving its unique network address, interfering with its ability to join the CAN bus and communicate with other modules. This communication failure can lead to a loss of functionality for the systems managed by the affected controller.

Applies to these machines

  • TM115
  • TM120
  • TM125
  • TM130
  • TM135
  • TM140
  • TM150
  • TM155
  • TM165
  • TM175
  • TM190

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness connected to the MCC1 or MIU controller and any related components of the front hitch system for chafed or melted insulation, corrosion, or pinched wires.

  2. Disconnect and inspect the control module connectors for bent or pushed-out pins, moisture intrusion, or poor connections.

  3. With the key on, use a multimeter to test the CAN address control input wire at the controller connector. A reading of battery voltage confirms the short to power condition.

  4. With the key off and battery disconnected, check for continuity between the CAN address control input wire and a known power source wire in the harness (there should be no continuity).

  5. With the key off and battery disconnected, measure the resistance between the CAN high and CAN low wires at the diagnostic port to verify overall CAN bus health (should be approximately 60 ohms).

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the fault

Disconnect other components on the same CAN bus circuit one by one to see if the fault code disappears. This helps determine if another faulty component is causing the short circuit on the address line.

  2. Repair wiring harness

If diagnostic checks reveal a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section. This may involve repairing the insulation, replacing a section of wire, or cleaning and securing a connector.

  3. Replace the faulty module

If the wiring and connectors are in good condition and the short to power condition is confirmed to be internal to the control module (MCC1 or MIU), replace the module.
