New Holland ARMRE 1049 – ARM: Hitch UP/DOWN switch has failed

The Tractor Data Bus signals that the switch has failed, and the hitch controller receives this error signal directly from the armrest controller, to which the switch is hardwired.

   Verify that fault code ARM 1049 is actively present at the armrest controller.

   Visually inspect the external wiring for damaged wires, loose connectors, or bent pins.

   Perform a switch pinout and continuity test by opening the armrest controller housing and disconnecting the switch connector (J210). Check positions A (Hitch up), B (Center), and C (Momentary) against pins J210-1 (down), J210-3 (fast down), J210-4 (up), and J210-5 (12V power).

   Measure the voltage output from the controller at the power pin (J210-5) to ensure it is supplying 12 VDC.

   Access the Switch

   Open the armrest controller housing to access the Hitch UP/DOWN switch and its wiring harness.

   Disconnect and Test

   Disconnect the switch connector and test the switch for proper continuity across its positions.

   Replace the Switch

   If the switch does not show proper continuity when toggled, the switch has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Simulate Controller Inputs

   If the switch and wiring are intact, test the armrest controller itself. You can simulate the switch functions by shorting the 12V power wire to the respective signal pins (Up, Down, Fast Down).

   Monitor Service Tool

   While simulating the inputs, monitor the switch status on the monitor screen of your diagnostic service tool.

   Replace Controller

   If the controller does not function properly or fails to recognize the simulated inputs, the armrest controller has suffered an internal failure (power supply or signal sensing failed) and must be replaced.
