ARMRE 1139

New Holland ARMRE 1139 – ARM (Armrest Module / Armrest Controller): Engine Brake switch is failed

Issue description

The controller detects an illogical state from the switch, specifically when both the engine brake 'auto' circuit and the engine brake 'manual' circuit are closed at the same time, which is a physical impossibility during normal operation.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series
  • New Holland T9000
  • New Holland T9020

Check the cause

  1. Check the external wiring for damaged wires, loose connectors, or bent pins.

  2. Open the armrest controller housing, disconnect the engine brake switch, and use a multimeter to test the switch's continuity (verify it is not internally shorted).

  3. If the switch and wiring test good, verify the Armrest Controller for an internal power supply or signal sensing circuitry failure.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Switch

Open the right-hand armrest controller housing/console to access the internal switches and wiring.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Disconnect the wiring harness from the Engine Brake switch. Inspect the connector for bent pins, corrosion, or loose wires. Repair the harness if any damage is found.

  4. Test/Replace the Switch

Test the switch with a multimeter. If the switch is internally shorted or fails to toggle correctly between states, remove the faulty switch from the armrest panel and install a new OEM replacement.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness to the switch and carefully close the armrest controller housing, ensuring no wires are pinched.

  6. Clear and Verify

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the stored fault codes. Cycle the engine brake switch to ensure the ARM 1139 code does not return. (Note: If the code immediately returns and the switch/wiring are verified good, the Armrest Controller will require replacement or professional repair).

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Brake Switch (Armrest Mounted)

Look up the exact switch in the CNH/New Holland electronic parts catalog using the tractor's specific Product Identification Number (PIN) or serial number.
