ARMRE 12013

New Holland ARMRE 12013 – ARM (Armrest Controller / Arm Rest Module): Communications Lost with Data Bus and ALL other controllers

Issue description

This indicates a critical network failure where the module has completely lost Controller Area Network (CAN bus) communication with the tractor's data bus and all other Electronic Control Units (ECUs) on the machine.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland TG Series (TG210, TG255)
  • New Holland T8000 Series (T8010, T8020, T8030, T8040, T8050)
  • New Holland T9 / T9000 Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify Voltage and Batteries: Load-test the battery and measure voltage during cranking (must stay above 10.5V). Low voltage can cause false communication lost codes.

  2. Inspect Grounds: Check frame grounds, the engine block ground strap, and battery negative connections for corrosion or high resistance.

  3. Check CAN Bus Terminators: Inspect active terminators (especially on older models) for broken solder joints where the plug pins meet the board.

  4. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Verify power and ground directly at the Armrest Controller connections. Wiggle the wires near the Deutsch connectors to check for loose pins or broken wires inside the insulation.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Power/Ground Issues

Clean and tighten all battery terminals and ground straps. If voltage drops significantly under load, replace the battery or alternator.

  2. Upgrade CAN Bus Terminators

If the tractor still uses the older, failure-prone active terminators (square 4-pin connector), replace them with the updated passive "cap style" 120-Ohm terminators (triangular 3-pin connector) using an adapter harness.

  3. Test CAN Bus Continuity

Check the CAN bus lines from the cab to the rear of the machine to ensure the network is functioning properly.

  4. Replace the Armrest Controller

If power, ground, and CAN bus integrity are verified but the controller remains offline, the Armrest Controller has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

  5. Flash Software

Install the new Armrest Controller. Note that replacement controllers may not function immediately out of the box; they often require a technician to hook up the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to capture the controller and download/flash the correct machine software onto it.
