New Holland ARMRE 139 – ARM (Armrest Controller / Arm Rest Module): Aux remote valve TIMER potentiometer is failed

The potentiometer responsible for setting the timer function on the auxiliary remote hydraulic valves is sending an out-of-range signal (too high, too low, or open circuit) to the controller. This means the tractor cannot accurately determine how long the hydraulic remote valve should stay engaged when activated.

   Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for related voltage or CAN-BUS codes (e.g., 4016: Signal from Remote valve Timer potentiometer 1 out of range or 12011: Communications Lost with Armrest Controller). If communication codes are present, the issue may be the armrest wiring harness rather than the potentiometer itself.

   Physical Inspection: Inspect the timer adjustment knob on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or excessive play.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Disassemble the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness leading to the potentiometer. Look for broken wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion.

   Multimeter Test: Back-probe the potentiometer to check for a smooth change in resistance/voltage as the knob is turned. A dead spot or an open circuit confirms the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest.

   Access the Armrest Internals

   Remove the retaining screws on the underside or perimeter of the armrest console (SideWinder or standard) to lift the top cover plate.

   Locate the Component

   Identify the specific auxiliary remote valve timer potentiometer on the circuit board or mounting bracket.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the back of the failed potentiometer.

   Remove

   Remove the knob from the top of the console (usually pulls straight off or has a small set screw). Undo the retaining nut holding the potentiometer to the console housing and pull the unit out from the bottom.

   Install

   Insert the new OEM potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and reattach the knob.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks into place.

   Reassemble & Test

   Reassemble the armrest console, reconnect the battery, and turn the key on. Clear the inactive fault codes via the instrument cluster. Test the auxiliary remote timer function to ensure the code does not return. (Note: Some models may require a brief calibration of the armrest potentiometers via the Electronic Management Unit / Instrument Cluster after replacement).
