New Holland ARMRE 149 – Armrest Controller: Hitch Upper Limit Potentiometer Failed
Issue description
Fault code ARMRE 149 indicates that the hitch upper limit potentiometer is operating outside of its normal range, has an open circuit, or has shorted. The armrest controller receives this failure signal and communicates it to the main hitch controller via the CAN bus. This is typically caused by a physical failure of the potentiometer itself or a software execution error.

Check the cause
Verify if there is a software execution error in the armrest controller. Sometimes a simple reboot or a software reflash by a dealer can clear anomalous ARM codes.
Check the 3-pin wiring harness for continuity, corrosion, or loose connections because the potentiometer is wired directly to the armrest controller.
Test the resistance of the upper limit potentiometer using a multimeter on its 3 pins (A, B, and C). Pin A to Pin C should read between 8,000 and 11,000 ohms. Pin A to Pin B and Pin B to Pin C should read 0 to 10,000 ohms depending on the dial's position. If the multimeter shows an open circuit (OL) or dead spots while turning the dial, the potentiometer has internally failed.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the armrest console.
Access the armrest
Disassemble the armrest controller console to access the rear hitch control dials.
Remove the potentiometer
Unplug the 3-terminal electrical prong connector from the faulty upper limit potentiometer. Unthread or unpin the sensor from the control dial assembly.
Install the new part
Secure the new heavy-duty electronic sensor potentiometer into the housing and reconnect the 3-pin harness.
Reassemble
Put the armrest console back together and reconnect the battery.
Clear codes and calibrate
Turn the key on and clear the stored ARM 149 fault code. Perform an Electronic Hitch Autocalibration so the controller can learn the minimum and maximum resistance limits of the new potentiometer.
