New Holland ARMRE 18012 – Armrest Module: CVT mode switch error

Issue description

This indicates a signal failure, circuit error, or mechanical malfunction in the switch used by the operator to select the operating modes for the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CVT mode switch on the multi-function handle for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing full engagement.

  2. Check the wiring harness between the multi-function handle and the Armrest Control Unit for pinched wires, open circuits, or loose connector pins.

  3. Verify that the armrest module is receiving proper voltage, checking for low voltage supplies or blown fuses.

  4. Verify that the Central Control Unit (CCU) is properly receiving the CAN signals from the CVT mode switch.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits while working on the armrest electronics.

  2. Depressurize Systems

If your repair requires moving or disconnecting the pneumatic seat controls located in the same armrest, ensure the air system is depressurized first.

  3. Access the Switch

Remove the retaining screws and trim panels on the electronic armrest to access the internal wiring of the multi-function handle.

  4. Disconnect and Replace

Disconnect the wiring harness leading to the CVT mode switch. If the switch is a standalone replaceable unit, swap it out. If the switch is hard-integrated into the handle or EDC control board, the entire multi-function handle or armrest top-half must be replaced.

  5. Reassembly and Calibration

Reconnect all harnesses, reassemble the armrest, and reconnect the battery. Clear the stored calibration/error information (EEPROM) via the Central Control Unit (CCU) or dealer diagnostic tool.
