New Holland ARMRE 18013 – Armrest Controller Module (ACM): Multi-function handle - encoder position error
Issue description
The encoder (the internal sensor tracking the physical movement and position of the joystick/handle) inside the CommandGrip multi-function handle is sending an invalid, erratic, or out-of-range position signal to the tractor's control system.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- New Holland T7 Series (e.g., T7.165 through T7.270)
- New Holland T8 Series
Check the cause
Enter the tractor's diagnostic 'H MENU' (test H9) and monitor the encoder's output while moving the handle to check for dead spots or erratic jumps
Verify the reference voltage reaching the handle is between 4.5 to 5.5 VDC (or 4.75 to 5.25 VDC depending on revision). If outside this range, check the ACM power supply or look for a wiring short
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the multi-function handle and the Armrest Controller Module (ACM) for damaged pins, corrosion, or pinched wires
Repair steps
Power down and disconnect battery
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.
Remove trim panels
Remove the trim panels on the SideWinder armrest console to access the base mounting of the multi-function handle.
Disconnect harness
Carefully disconnect the multi-pin electrical harness connector at the base of the handle.
Remove handle
Remove the retaining screws/bolts securing the handle assembly to the armrest structure and lift the old handle out.
Install new handle
Install the new or remanufactured multi-function handle into the armrest and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.
Reassemble and reconnect battery
Reassemble the armrest console trim and reconnect the battery.
Verify and clear code
Power on the tractor and return to the H9 diagnostic menu to verify the new encoder is reading smoothly across its full range of motion. Clear the 18013 fault code from the system.
