New Holland ARMRE 18014 – Armrest Module (ARU): Rear hitch position control potentiometer - voltage too low
Issue description
The control module is receiving a signal voltage from the rear hitch position dial/lever that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground in the signal wire, a disconnected plug, or an internally failed potentiometer.

Check the cause
Access the tractor's H9 menu (Switch & Sensor Test Functions) via the instrument cluster to monitor the live voltage supply and signal of the potentiometer
Open the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin connector at the rear hitch position potentiometer for loose pins, corrosion, or chafing
Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the standard 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground from the Armrest Module
Test the signal wire between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest Module to ensure it is not broken (open circuit) or shorted to the chassis ground
Measure the resistance sweep of the potentiometer itself with a multimeter while turning the dial. If the resistance drops to zero or goes infinite unexpectedly, the potentiometer is internally faulty
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Armrest
Carefully remove the retaining screws and plastic covers on the armrest control console to access the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module.
Remove the Faulty Sensor
Locate the rear hitch position control potentiometer. Disconnect its 3-pin electrical connector. Remove the mounting nut or retaining clip holding the potentiometer to the control knob/lever assembly, and pull the sensor out.
Install the New Sensor
Insert the replacement potentiometer, ensuring the physical alignment notch matches the lever's range of motion so the sweep is read correctly. Secure it with the mounting hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new potentiometer.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest console covers and reconnect the tractor's battery.
Calibration
Power on the tractor. You must perform a rear hitch/EDC calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic menu. This allows the Armrest Module to learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage limits.
